(she/her)
Lani is a Mediate BC family and child protection designated RRM and has worked as a family law lawyer and mediator for the past 20 years. Lani lives on Haisla Nation territory in a lush coastal rainforest valley also known as Kitimat.
Lani’s professional passions include circle/consent decision-making and governance design, transformative, collaborative and integrative mediation, and the use of “supra-rational” states of being (evoked through nature, art, music, dance, or play) as a way to unlock impasse in dispute resolution.
Since 2023, Lani has worked closely with the Haisla Nation on a collaborative family law project designed to give families options for resolving disputes outside of the colonial court system. She dreams of supporting the creation of an indigenous family court to serve Northwest BC.
Lani also has a background in international relations, indigenous rights and title and environmental law. From 2018 to 2022 she served her community as a city councillor. She continues to lead community initiatives related to public art, watershed stewardship, food security, and youth sports.
When not working, Lani’s favourite place to be is outside in the beautiful valley she calls home, with her family and friends close by.
