Informal Resolution Project Lead

Mediate BC Society (“MBC”) is a not-for-profit organization working to transform approaches to conflict through the development and delivery of accessible, inclusive, and innovative conflict resolution services.

We are seeking a full-time (35 hours/week) Informal Resolution Project Lead to work remotely.

Overview and Reporting

The Informal Resolution Project Lead (the “IR Lead”) will manage a two-year project supporting employers in the trades to address sexual harassment and bullying of women and gender-diverse people through early, trauma-informed and non-adversarial conflict resolution processes.

The  IR Lead reports to the Executive Director and will coordinate with them in matters relating to strategy, project development and evaluation. As well, the IR Lead will be supported by an Advisory Committee comprised of individuals and organizational representatives with professional and lived experience relevant to the project.

Specific Responsibilities

The Lead will carry out the following responsibilities:

  • Outreach to existing and potential partner organizations to develop plans for cooperation, outreach, and materials development and dissemination
  • Develop resources, training, and guidance for employers on developing and implementing responsive, effective conflict resolution policies and procedures to address sexual harassment and bullying
  • Create sample policies and procedures, online resources (videos, templates, etc.), and in-person and virtual workshops to support employers and train employees
  • Deliver workshops or develop training for workshop facilitators, possibly including trainers from partner organizations
  • Develop a sector-specific, sexual harassment resource to provide intersectional, trauma-informed advice to employers regarding available resources and options for informal and formal resolution processes
  • Support organizational leads in Training and Roster development in identifying training and skills requirements for conflict resolution professionals providing services in the workplace
  • Work with the Executive Director, the Roster Manager, and MBC Committees to develop and support the delivery of training and continuing professional development opportunities to support culturally safe, inclusive conflict resolution services
  • Work with the Executive Director and Roster Manager to develop a referral and resource process for informal resolution of workplace harassment
  • Work with the MBC’s Director of Research and project evaluators in ongoing evaluation design, data collection and analysis
  • Participate in Mediate BC’s Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee
  • Communicate any serious concerns to the Executive Director regarding issues that come to the IR Lead’s attention that may adversely affect MBC’s operations, integrity or reputation
  • Additional related tasks as may be requested

 

Competencies

The IR Lead will have:

  • Experience in the resolution of workplace sexual harassment and bullying complaints
  • Knowledge of workplace harassment laws, policies and practice in BC
  • Demonstrated ability in trauma-informed practice
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral communication and business writing skills
  • Strong presentation and facilitation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work with cultural humility 
  • Demonstrated comfort working with a broadly diverse population and in a wide variety of settings

 

The IR Lead will be able to:

  • Establish credibility and collegial working relationships with broad stakeholder groups in the justice community who may have competing interests or perspectives
  • Work independently and collaboratively with a team
  • Manage complex, sensitive projects to required timelines.


Desired Qualifications

It would be desirable for the IR Lead to have:

  • Experience in workplace conflict resolution
  • Experience in, and knowledge of, dispute resolution practice including mediation and facilitation
  • Law degree, call to the BC bar, and some legal experience
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including demonstrated ability to interact with individuals (clients, staff, government representatives and the public) from diverse backgrounds
  • Experience with community outreach
  • Experience developing and delivering workshops, training and continuing professional development.

 

Specifications

Reports to:     Executive Director

Hours:             Full-time, 35 hours per week until March 31, 2027

Salary:             $35-38/hour depending on qualifications, plus benefits

Location:        Contractor working from home/remotely

Start Date:     As soon as possible
