(he/him)
David Luggi is a prominent Indigenous leader in Canada, known for his advocacy and work on behalf of First Nations communities. He is the former Tribal Chief of the Carrier Sekani Tribal Council and has also served as the Chief of the Stellat’en First Nation.
David is deeply involved in issues concerning Indigenous rights, particularly in the context of land and resource management. He has been vocal about the impacts of colonial policies, such as those resulting from the residential school system, which he himself survived. This experience has driven his commitment to addressing the ongoing effects of these policies, including their influence on the modern child welfare system.
David’s leadership extends to environmental advocacy, where he has been involved in efforts to protect water resources and oppose projects that threaten Indigenous lands, like the Enbridge Northern Gateway pipeline. He emphasizes the need for reconciliation and the recognition of Indigenous sovereignty as key components in moving forward to build a better future for First Nations in Canada.
His work is also recognized in legal and political discussions, particularly in the context of Canada’s National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, where he has participated in forums to educate and inspire action toward systemic change.
