Preparing for Family Mediation

Some things that you can do to prepare for your family mediation session include:

1. Seek legal advice
You may want to use the following resources:
Legal Services Society

Some lawyers let you choose which tasks you want help with and which ones you will handle on your own. These are called "unbundled" services. Find lawyers willing to offer unbundled services here:

2. Attend a Free Workshop
The Justice Education Society holds the following free workshops:

  • Parenting After Separation; and
  • Separated with Children-Dealing with the Finances

3. Interpretation Services
Arrange for an Interpreter if needed.

4. Collect Documentation
Gather any supporting documents for the issues to be discussed in your mediation sessions.  These may include:

  • Court Orders / Written Agreements
  • Income statements / Personal Tax Assessments
  • Property Assessments
  • Investments / Debt and Banking Info
  • Parenting After Separation; and
  • Separated with Children-Dealing with the Finances
